who wore what? Costume Institute Gala 2010 Worst Dressed Part 1

Hey guys!
So this is my first real blog on a MASSIVE fashion event! Apoligies for being so late! Sorry again!
The Costume Institute Gala turned up some bad and some good ensembles. So here they are the best and worst dressed. Worst is First (just because it rhymes). The event was based on 'The American Women' but there were a few Brits and an Aussie or two or just one.

Worst Dressed Costume Institute Gala 2010

Some people took the event's title too literally and turned up in Wild Western style garmet while others turned up in Gothic-style and even a fairytale Cinderella look.

Abbie Cornish
In Louis Vuitton

I love ever-thing about this dress EXCEPT it is TOO ruffled around the mid-drift area and to floppy and puffy at the chest! However the beautiful jewelert she is wearing is well beautiful. Not loving the clutch though.

Christina Hendricks
In L'Wren Scott

"Christina darling, you appear to have a very large bug of some sort attacking your shoulder. What it's part of your dress?"

Yes I do adore the shape of this dress and her make- up is brave and flawless but come on fix the massive thing on your shoulder.
The saying goes "If you've got it flaunt it" but in this case "If you've got too much of it, put it away" and this applies to Christina's em... assets. No push-up needed here!

Doutzen Kores
In Zac Posen

For a minute I thought Cinderella had made an appearence on the red carpet. And to be honest,do you blame me? I don't even wanna know how many layers of fabric went into that dress You can even see the comparision above.
Come on! Is that for real? Make some room for everyone else on the red carpet. I actually like the dress on the whole if I could just cut off the VERY long train.

Vera Farm-inga
In Sophie Teallet for Gap

Hey Saloon girl! Vera, Vera, Vera! When you look in the mirror and look like a mix between a Saloon Girl and a lampshade you know you should go inside and change. I love the colour and Hollyood glamour of her hair, make up and earrings but the rest just kind of goes flat or frilly. I think she would suit a fishtail frock rather than this.

Eva Mendes
In Dolce & Gabbana

This dress made Eva seem out of proportion and bigger than she really is. I am a fan of fishtail frocks but this I think the bottom skirt is too full, The actual cut of the dress is truly gorgeous but the pattern not so much. In the end, I don't think she pulled it off the way she'd have hoped. Though it is a grower. The more I look the more I like.

Gissele Bunchen
In Alexander Wang
Talk about FRINGE OVERLOAD. Fringes on arms and the end of dress. Not a good look.
The pattern on the leather doesn't float my boat. I don't like anything about this dress. The cut is too short and I don't know what is going on at the neckline. Though the shoes are growing on me.

Janet Jackson
In Lavin

There is a very thin line between sexy and trying too hard. This has set a new line of TRYING WAY TOO HARD!

Apart from that I love the asymmetrical look of the dress. Lavin is great for class with an element of sexy. I can imagine carbon copies of this will be hitting the high street anytime soon.

January Jones
In Yves Saint Laurent
She just looked HORRIFIC!
Since when was it fashionable to wear gate style patterns on pink satin?

Bad Dress!
Bad Hair!
Bad Make-Up!
Bad Gloves!

And that is all I have to say on that matter!

Joy Bryant
In Marchesa

I really wanna just hak the sleeves off this badboy!

If the puffy sleeves were off this dress then we would be in Best Dressed List contention.

The lipstick is so off. I would appreciate a nude colour or light pink.
I think that the clutch would be a hell of a lot better if it was in silver and smaller stud earrings.

Part 2 and possibly Part 3 and Best Dressed will be coming tommorow and Tuesday. Em xx

Friday News Blast

Okay, I have a Friday treat for you all a quick News Blast! So I think that this is a good idea to highlight the stories that don't get the coverage they deserve maybe I will make it a regular feature.

Yves Saint Laurent's House up for Sale
Fancy having a look around arguably one the most influental designers ever to walk the face of the earth (don't know if there is fashion on mars)?

Yep me too!

But now there is a chance that the house of Yves Saint Laurent may be coming on to the market. How exciting! But I wouldn't hold your breath because
1. It may not even come on the market.
2. If it does it will cost a bomb.

Gievenchy Launch Autumn New Ad Campaign

Controversially, Givenchy designer Ricardo Tisci has decided to use a transexual model. His name is Lea T or previously known as Leo. Some say it looks to edgy and abstract but I disagree and think the prints work well together and look great. I think that it is a good idea because it is including more minorities in the fashion world. Usually the fashion world exempts anyone who does not conform to the White and Skinny standard issue. Though plus sizes and darker skinned models are coming into focus and some designers have refused to work with any models that are not plus size. So the future is bright...

Vanessa Paradis Joins Campaign for Chanel Cocoon
The supermodel joins the famous faces such as Lily Allen who modelled for the brand last year. I will show you the comparisions. Karl Laigerfield has claimed that his muse Vanessa was great to work with.

"She is the most divine person to work with and to be with."
- Karl Laigerfield

Pixie Lott Designs for Lipsy

Ever since Pixie Lott arrived on the pop scene with Mama Do she has been causing a bit of a stir on the fashion scene with her quirky festival look and bedhead hair she's been a hit with the Brits and won them over with her fashion and music.
But now she has stepped up a gear, she now has teamed up with Lipsy and the result has been well quite spectactular.

Here are the promo pics:

Thank you for reading. Now I'm off to bed to go and snuggle in with a copy of InStyle June. Leona Lewis is the covergirl. May blog about it tomorrow. That reminds me that there will be full coverage of The Costume Institute Gala 2010. I will be working on it all day! I've already got my pics so that's a start at least. I know I am a bit late since it was on Monday but still I think that it's a great event so I want to cover it. I even heard a comparsion that it was the 'Fashion Oscars' on Marie-Claire's site.
  Thanks again,
Emma xx

Dentists, Cathedrals, Necropolis, Delicious Miss Dahl, Glasgow and Anesthetic

Written the other day not yet published. Sorry guys not been on in ages!
Sitting watching The Delicious Miss Dahl recorded from last week. They'll be another on tonight. My face feels huge. Went to dentist got two fillings and had two(!) injections of local anesthetic. Haven't eaten yet but when I have my dinner I'll be ready for it. The one joyous thing about this is that I got an afternoon of school but still not sure it's worth it. I have a itchy ear but when I touch it it is numb too and I have chewed the side of my face up. It looks like it has been burnt. :*-(

Anyway, yesterday on bank holiday I went to a trip to Glasgow Cathedral and Necropolis. or as the Spanish may say Got loads of inspiring photos. When I say loads I mean lotsand lots (pre-warning.)

If you would like to use them please ask me by email on sewingstyle@live.co.uk.

So here they are:

best fashion websites as chosen by me!

Best Fashion Websites and Blogs!

This is an amazing website for fashion news and celebrity fashion.  There is also an additional Australian site.  There is also a bellasugar (beauty), and popsugar (entertainment and celebrity). My favourite popsugar post is the daily 'what to sky+'  for Uk. Then there is popsugar (celebrity) , fabsugar (fashion), bellasugar (beauty), tréssugar (culture), buzzsugar (entertainmernt), casasugar (homedecor), fitsugar (health), lilsugar (kids and parenting), yumsugar (food), savvysugar (money), *geeksugar (tech), petsugar (pets), popsugar tv (tv), popsugar etc (community and all the rest)

This site is great for links to other websites. the layout is not the best as there is a massive moving ad at all times on the left pane of the page. But as I said is good for links. It has tabs on fashion, luxe, shopping, art and work.

Full to the brim of more high fashion with a funky layout. It also has video, backstage and onstage at fashion shows and redcarpet pictures.

This is full of RSS feeds from all the top fashion websites. Though it looks very plain and boring it does have good articles. Most of the stuff has a Sims cartoon look to it but it does look quirky and I like it.
Website full of celebrity sightings. See where they've been and more importantly what they've been wearing.

I love this site. Great trend updates and great features like 'Call My Stylist' and 'Trends' and 'FocusOn'.  You can also can sign up for newsletters.

The most popular UK Women's Mag goes online. The fashion pages have News, Treand. Basically the mag online.

Again this is another celeb sighting website. I think it has a great layout it also has articles and has Eclipse (and other upcoming movie) stills

Good pictures of all the shows and hairstyle ideas. With a cool black and red contrast background.

The magazine hits the web. It looks good with its blog like layout. While you are there check out Hair and Beauty.

The best page to look after fashion week to sort the real trends from the misguided ones. Also has pictures from shows and events in the fashion world calender.

With great advice on careers from the likes of Henry Holland and River Island buyers and general stuff with great tutorial videos such as 'How to make a moodboard'.

All the news on the big events in Great Britaina. Blogs and an insider's look at all the big launches.

This site needs no introduction.

With celebrity, look of the day, parties, beauty, hair and more.

Not one of my personal favoutites but will be a fav if you like alternative fashion. Though the striped background gave me a headache! :-(

Great news site. Lots of reports on designers rather than the high street focus of other sites on this list.

'The global fashion magazine' online. Great articles on all aspects of fashion like catwalk and green fashion.

If you know and appreciate iVillage then you will appreciate iVillage Beauty and Style. Although focused on beauty it still does cater for fashion.

Featuring articles from various sources including about.com and other great article sites.

Great little news snipets that you wouldn't get on the news or in the paper. While you're there you can check the stock markets. LOL! :-)

As you can probably guess from the title this site is great for learning the in's and out's of the fashion industry.

It states on their website that they are
'The internet's largest source of fashion inspiration from real people around the world.' It's a pretty simple concept. Basically real people in the fashion world and not (they are a lot of bloggers and models on there).

HYPE the looks you like to make them HOT. The hottest looks will appear on the homepage.

So we have come to the end of the 'best fashion websites as chosen by me'. Soon I will post the best blogs soon.

xoxo, Emma

lots of news! india, laptops, desktops, hair and nautical collages.

I have loads of news for all of you. I'll let you know even more at the end of this post. So let's crack on. Thank you. xx

First of all I got a haircut.
The fringe was cut and hair was re-feathered. Soory about pursing my lips in this photo. Bad habit.

My new collage board. On the latest trend to hit the high street. Refined nautical is all the rage.

My favourite ever scarf bought from Turkey for about 5 Lira (around 44p (!) bargin or what) was the centre of my latest crazy idea, a project on. India. I love the food (infact I had a curry tonight), the beauty, the fashion, the movie, the music and the culture. So I am trying to portray India in a fashion-forward way. You may even see my next sewing project (more info on sewing in a min).

Okay first some bad news. I will be posting alot less because I kind of broke 3 arrow keys on my laptop but it's not going away till 11th May. Yay!

I also am getting a new sewing machine. A Brother. I can't wait till my birthday next month. So I can show you all of my beautiful work.

I will try and add more fun post because I know it's been boring (feel free to say it's not been, lol!) so I will try hard to inject some life back into the blog. Taking my camera somewhere random Sunday for some great pics. Post them Sun or Monday.

Applied for membership to lookbook. Who knows if I'll get in or not? I'll just keep applying till I get in eventually I will. lol.

Thanks,
Em xx

is it just me or....? is their a lack of fashion news sources

there is NO news about fashion about BBC. ITV. CNN. SKY NEWS. ZERO. NONE. NADA.

the last report i have saw was about late, great alexander mcqueen (may he R.I.P). but i think that there is gap in the market. maybe someone shoud put  fashion channel for a couple of hours. but not one with 10 years younger australia  or other such trash tv (that was made in the noughties) on repeat through day and night.

there is also a lack of good websites. that reminds me i'm going to post a list of the best including blogs so keep your eyes peeled.

so we should all unite. get the fashion world involved and get more fashion on our brit boxes.

thanks,
emma xx
